Cherupayar (green gram ) Mooloshyam
Green gram beans are easy to digest. They are a
great source of proteins as well as a good source of minerals like magnesium,
potassium and iron. In these type of recipe where it’s very rare to use
red chili powder. As green chilies are better for health as per Ayurveda. So when stomach is upset or day after the feast
grandma used to serve us with this reciepe. This might be her secret of healthy body with no new generation diseases like cholesterol, blood pressure, diabetes etc. This tastes yum with rice and curd
and lime pickle. This recipe can also be categorized as one pot cooking.
- moong (green gram) – 1cup
- Turmeric powder – ½ teaspoon
- Curry leaves – few
- Coconut oil – 1 teaspoon
- Green chilli – 1 or 2
Method:
Pick and wash the whole green moong dal
4-5 times. Drain the water and add the rinsed moong dal to a pressure cooker
and pressure cook with 2 cups of water for 5 whistles on medium flame or till
the dal turns soft. Once the pressure has released by itself, remove the
lid of the cooker and lightly mash the cooked dal. Add green chilies and
turmeric . When nicely cooked add green chilly red chilli
powder and let it boil add salt to taste. When it comes to right consistency
don’t too watery. Once done switch of the flame and add curry leaves and
coconut oil. Close the lid. It goes best with plain rice.
Note: If you want rather than adding raw coconut oil one can also give a
tadka of thinly sliced shallots fried in oil.
