Kerala Chakka(Jackfruit) Ellisery


Jackfruits are grown in summer season. During Vishu which is New Year for Keralites, Big Jackfruits with other vegetables and fruits are kept for Vishu Kani an arrangement of items kept for first sight on Vishu day.As every house in Kerala has a jackfruit tree at home so its an traditional and popular dish for Vishu Sadya in Kerala Cuisine. 

As this dish is seasonal everyone dives on it. It’s my favorite dish too. This dish is less spicy and has a slight sweet flavor of Jackfruit dish.

 

Ingredients 

Jackfruit (deseeded and cut into small pieces) -1/2kg

Turmeric Powder- 1 tsp.

Coconut Oil - 1 tbsp.

Curry Leaves

Rai 1tsp

Dry red chilly 2no

Coconut 3-4tbsp

Curry leaf few

Salt as required 

For grinding

Coconut 3/4cup

Jeera 1tsp

Green chilly 4no

 

Method

Cook jackfruit with turmeric powder and salt.  Then add grinded mixture. Check for salt and spice level. Once done switch off. In kadai add coconut oil once hot add rai dry chilly curry leaf and coconut and fry it till coconut turns brown. If in case you feel the curry is less spicy add ½ tsp. of chilly powder to tadka. Add the cooked jackfruit in kadai and stir to make it into thick consistency.

Garnish with curry leaves. A star dish for Vishu sadya
