Cheera (Red palak)Thoran



Cheera (Red palak) are grown in most of the households in Kerala. Cheera side dish can be made with or without coconut. Thorans are traditional style dry side dish with coconut in it.   Any thoran goes awesome with curd rice and a pickle.

Ingredients

Cheera (redpalak) 2 bundle cleaned and chopped

Turmeric Powder 1/4tsp

Salt to taste

For grinding

Coconut 1/4cup

Shallots 4-5 no’s

Jeera a pinch

Green chilly 2no

Tadka

Coconut oil 1tbsp

Curry leafs

Rai 1 tsp.

Dry red chilly 2no

 

Method

Chop the cheera and keep aside. Grind coconut with other ingredients in a kadai add the items of tadka once rai splutters add the chopped cheera turmeric and salt. Cover it and let it cook leafy vegetables cooks super-fast   . Remove the lid and let water get evaporated and once water gets evaporated add the grinded paste. Cover it and let it cook for 2minutes in low flame.  Switch off the flame. It’s served with steamed rice.
