Cherupayar Mezhkuvarti (stir fried Green gram )

 

 


Moong being a healthy pulse with lot of health benefits  . During days when amma used to feel lazy to cook or feel like having light lunch. Cherupayar mezhukvarti used to be in her menu with matyangya pulingari. I used to love it with just curd rice and mango pickle.  This is a side dish can be accompanied with any curry.   It’s a simple and easy recipe.

INGREDIENTS

    Cherupayar (Green moong) 1 cup

   Turmeric powder 1/4tsp

    Chilly powder 1/2tsp

     Salt

For Tadka

Rai 1tsp

Small onion 10-12 no’s crushed

Red chilly 2no crushed

Coconut oil

1 spring Curry leaves

 

 

 

 

 METHOD:

 

 Pressure cook cherupayar (moong) with turmeric powder and little salt for 3 whistles . we don’t need moong to get smashed .  Once cooked drain water if there and keep aside. In kadai add coconut oil add tadka ingredients once spluttered add crushed onion and red chilly  curry leafs and sauté for few seconds. Then in low flame add cooked cherupayar  and chilly powder cover it with lid cook it  once you feel its cooked remove the lid .  Switch off the flame and Serve it hot with cooked rice and curd based curry.
