Idichakka (Young jackfruit ) Thoran
Idichakka are baby jackfruit which are being grown in every household . It’s a very healthy and fiber rich vegetable which is one of the specialty dish in South India. For Keralites thoran and mezhuvartis are important part of lunch whether vegetarian or non-vegetarian menu. Thoran is like a side dish with rice and can be prepared with any vegetables like cabbage carrot any beans. Skin of these baby jackfruits are removed first. This is everyones favourite.
Ingredients:
Idichakka (young jackfruit) – 1no remove the skin and cut into small pieces
For grinding :
Coconut grated – ½ coconut
Small onion – few
Green chillies – 2nos
Turmeric powder – ½ teaspoon
For Tadka:
Rai – 1 tsp.
Red chillies – 2 no’s
Method
Remove the skin of Idichakka first while doing it
its better to apply coconut oil on knife and our hands. Cook the pieces of
jackfruit with salt and little turmeric . Grind coconut with other ingredients.In
a kadai add the items of tadka . once rai splutters add the cooked idichakka
and salt if needed . Cover it and let it cook . Remove the lid and let water get evaporated
and once water gets evaporated add the grinded paste. Cover it and let it cook
for 2minutes in low flame. Switch off
the flame. It’s served with steamed rice.
