Simple Dal curry

 

 


 This is simple dal was prepared by my Amma. Certain days our lunch would be simple ghee dal rice papa dam and homemade pickle which was awesome and soothing to soul and calm to stomach. She also used to prepare other varieties of dal too. This dal fry we used to have it with phulka too. It’s a comforting meal.

 

Ingredients 

Toor Dal 1 small cup

Tomato 1 no

Onion 1 no

Turmeric powder 1/4tsp dal

Hing a pinch

Pinch of garam masala

For grinding                           

Ginger 1 piece

Garlic 3-4

Green chilly 1

Coriander leafs

 

Tadka

 Oil 1tbsp

Rai 1/2tsp

Jeera seeds a pinch

Red dry chilly 3no

Curry leafs

Coriander leafs

 

Method

 

 Rinse dal and in a pressure cooker, cook 1 cup dal with hing and tomato till they are completely soft and mash able. In a mixie grind ginger garlic green chilly and coriander leafs.  In a bowl add cooked dal, grinded masala and turmeric powder.  Switch on the gas and boil it on high flame. Then Simmer dal for 7 to 8 minutes or till you see a frothy layer on top on a low or medium flame.  Switch off the flame. Then in small kadai give tadka with all the ingredients in tadka. Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot with rice.
